How Did The Celebration Of International Women's Day Begin? Is It a Celebration Or a Protest?

A journey from International Women's Day to Protest Day

The day began in New York City in 1908 when 15,000 women marched for shorter work hours, better wages and the right to vote. Later that year, the Socialist Party of America celebrated the first National Women's Day.

International Women's Day (IWD) is celebrated on March 8th every year, and it has its roots in the early 20th century. The idea of having an international day to celebrate women and their contributions to society was first proposed by Clara Zetkin, a German feminist, during the International Conference of Working Women in 1910.

The first International Women's Day was observed on March 19, 1911, in Austria, Denmark, Germany, and Switzerland. Over the years, the celebration of IWD has spread to many countries around the world, and it is now recognized as a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.

While the modern-day celebration of IWD has become more of a celebration, it had its roots in a protest movement. In the early 20th century, women were fighting for their rights, including the right to vote, better working conditions, and an end to discrimination.

The first IWD was organized as a way for women to come together and demand their rights. Women around the world still use IWD as an opportunity to call attention to ongoing issues related to gender inequality, including unequal pay, violence against women, and lack of representation in leadership positions.

International Women's Day was officially recognized in 1975 when the United Nations also started celebrating it.  The first theme chosen by the United Nations in 1996 was 'Celebrating the Past and Planning for the Future'.

Today, International Women's Day has become a day to celebrate the progress of women in society, politics and the economy, while the political roots behind it are to raise awareness about the inequality between women and men, which still persists.  By organizing strikes and demonstrations

Why is this day celebrated on March 8?

This date was not even set until 1917 when Russian women went on strike during the First World War with demands for 'bread and peace' and after four days the Russian leader had to resign and women were given the provisional right to vote. .

The day the women's strike began in Russia was February 23 in the Julian calendar, which is March 8 in the current calendar, and is therefore celebrated on this date.

Why do women wear purple on this day?

International Women's Day colors include purple, green and white.

Purple is a symbol of justice and dignity. Green represents hope.

White is held for purity however this is somewhat controversial. These colors originated from the Women's Social and Political Union in Britain in 1908.

Is there an International Men's Day?

Yes, November 19 is International Men's Day, but it started in the 1990s and is not recognized by the United Nations, but is celebrated in 80 countries, including the UK.

According to its organizers, "the day is a celebration of the positive impact men are making in this world, in their families and communities," and aims to improve gender relations.

How Women Celebrate International Women's Day?

International Women's Day is a national holiday in many countries, including Russia, where flower sales double in the three to four days around March 8.

In the United States, the month of March is celebrated as Women's History Month. A presidential proclamation is also made in this regard, in which the achievements of women throughout the year are honored.

What is the theme of International Women's Day in 2023?

The UN theme for International Women's Day 2023 is 'Digital All: Invention and Technology for Gender Equality'.

It aims to recognize and celebrate the contributions of girls and women in the fields of technology and online education.

On International Women's Day this year, the impact of the digital gender gap on inequality for women and girls will also be investigated as the UN estimates that if women's lack of access to the online world is not addressed So the gross domestic product of low and middle income countries will be lost by one and a half trillion dollars.

However, there are other issues under discussion on International Women's Day this year.

The International Women's Day website says it is created as a platform for women to make positive change. This website has chosen #EmbraceEquity as its theme.

Through associated organizations and programs, voices will be raised to challenge stereotypical gender roles of women, speak out against discrimination, draw attention to prejudice and involve women in all sectors.

How important is it to celebrate International Women's Day?

In the case of women, if you look at the history, the religion of Islam has the biggest role in giving women "feminine rights".

About fourteen and a half hundred years ago, women were looked down upon and considered a cause of disrespect. This was in those days when girls from newborn babies to young girls were buried alive.

If the husband died, the woman had to spend the rest of her life as a widow. Most of the women used to burn themselves alive for this humiliating reason.

History is full of incidents of violence against women due to ignorance and anger at every little thing.

It will not be wrong to say that women were not considered as human beings Women have gone through such dangerous, tragic and violent events that If the women of today were aware of history, they would never have raised the slogan of freedom.

Today, women are so free that if they are freed more, it will lead them to immorality.

In short, try to live according to the rights given to women in Islam to avoid further immorality if women do not get the rights according to Islam. So they have every right to raise voice in their favor A woman should always keep in mind that another name for a woman is modesty And he has to live by maintaining this modesty.!?

It happens...! And do you hold any of your medicines or food supplements and stare at them for a long time wondering if I've taken the tablet or have yet to take it? Or let's say that last night while sitting and eating with the family, which chapter of the book you were trying to read, you kept it locked, while you are the one who was a child. After reading the lesson, Farfar used to recite it to the teacher in class the next day and received applause almost every day. Know that you are not alone in this disease of forgetfulness, there are people around us whose memory is getting harder as the months and years go by, but the good thing is that working on improving your memory is a little more difficult.
